At the very beginning, as you concentrate on technique, you don’t
notice the stunning alpine scenery, the little villages that dot the hill
side, rocky peaks in the distance. But it doesn’t take long before you
master the basics and then you also relax and enjoy your beautiful
surroundings. Breathe in the mountain air and feel the warmth of
the sun. The paths are well made and easily followed, so as your
instructor leads, you can relish the pleasures of the world around
you whilst enjoying all the benefits of Nordic Walking.
From the airport we transfer north up the imposingly steep
sided Trento valley that runs down from the Austrian border. The
transfer takes us up the side of the valley onto the open pastures
of the altipano. We stay in the attractive little town of Folgaria. We
are not in the high peaks but great views accompany all our walks.
From here we have all manner of possibilities to practise and
enjoy Nordic walking. The sport is popular here and facilities are
as good as anywhere in Europe. The terrain is pre-alpine, with
rolling hills, pretty villages and open pasture. You may even see the odd cow with a bell. The Nordic walking trails are well marked,
generally follow the contours and are good under foot so are ideal
for the beginner through to the more experienced walker.
