The calm waters of the Bay of Naples reflect the cliffs like mirrored glass. Fields of orange and vine flourish in the fertile land nourished by the ash of brooding Mt Vesuvius. The sea and the volcano define the cornucopia of history, nature, good food and wine.
The outline of distant Ischia and the shimmering lights of nearby Naples illuminate the evenings in the calm bay. This provides a serene backdrop to dinner in the hotel restaurant and perhaps a coffee and digestivo to end the day. As the nights close in back home, shirt sleeves are the order of the day on a warm May or October evening in Vico Equense.
We combine strolls on the Sorrento Peninsula and in the Lattari Mountains and enjoy visits to the myriad of local world class sites. Below Vesuvius are the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum which were engulfed by its eruption in AD79. Both sites vividly evoke the past. Sorrento, a famous holiday resort since Roman times, is easily accessible from Vico Equense. The Amalfi coast with the famous towns of Amalfi, Positano and Ravello await exploration. South of Salerno is Paestum where there are three magnificent Greek temples and a splendid museum. We include a free day which can be spent in the animated and colourful city of Naples, so richly endowed with beautiful churches and palaces. Other might prefer a trip to the Isle of Capri. Both are easily visited on public transport.
With so much to see, these holidays offer a busy fortnight or an even busier week. Alternate weeks follow a different itinerary, however to see everything you need at least two weeks.
All transport costs for the programme are included in the holiday charge, entrance fees are not included. Please see our Holiday Information sheets for details and for a summary of each week’s itinerary.
